Honey Bee Canyon hiking things to do in Tucson

Tucson is a very active city, filled with running and cycling communities as well as hiking trails and enthusiasts.  One of our favorite hiking trails in particular is Honey Bee Canyon in Oro Valley, just northwest of Tucson.  Hiking Honey Bee Canyon is a healthy and family-friendly activity, and one of many fun things to do in Tucson.

Although Honey Bee Canyon is not a very difficult hike, it is a great place to go if you have limited time and/or young children and still want to explore the beautiful Tucson desert.  The trail is three miles total out and back with some very picturesque places to stop and rest, or even take a family photo.

Once you hike down into Honey Bee Canyon Trail, you feel like you are miles away from the bustling city, when really it is just behind you.  The trail is mostly sandy, although it turns into gravel at some points.

While hiking you can see signs left behind from Honey Bee Canyon’s first inhabitants, the Hohokam people.  If you look closely, a few of the large stone walls have Hohokam petroglyphs on them.

Another fun thing to do is to pack a picnic lunch and keep it in the car for a reward after your hike.  Honey Bee Canyon Trail has beautiful ramadas and well-kept bathroom facilities at its entrance that make it a perfect place for a post-hike picnic.  If you are looking for a beautiful and fun way to enjoy the Tucson weather, hiking Honey Bee Canyon Trail is a great thing to do!

Have Fun,
